Graduated with BSc (Hons) in Computing with Software Development

After four great years, packed with solid lectures, long nights, a bit of chaos, and a lot of learning, I’ve officially wrapped up my time at Technological University Dublin. I graduated with a First Class Honours degree and a final GPA of 3.96, including multiple semesters with a perfect 4.00. Never thought I’d be saying that.

At the start

When I started back in 2021, I wasn’t aiming for top marks. I genuinely just hoped I’d pass and keep up. I didn’t have a ton of confidence, and the idea of maintaining a GPA like that felt completely out of reach. But somehow, in that first semester, I managed one B+ and the rest As, a surprise for me and my family. It felt like a turning point. I started thinking maybe I could actually do this if I really put in the work.

The Experience

A lot of people say university doesn’t teach you much, that it only covers the basics. And yeah, in some ways, that’s fair. But for me, each module gave just enough of a starting point to explore something deeper. Instead of just ticking boxes, I used the coursework as a springboard to dive into areas I’d never have touched otherwise.

Because of that, I built real experience with Java, TypeScript, Python, Svelte, Bun/Node, MySQL, and more. I ended up spending most of my time on things like scalable backend systems, security-focused design, and eventually, cryptography and privacy-preserving tech, stuff I didn’t even know existed when I started. The course didn’t hand everything to me, but it gave me the footing to figure out what I cared about, and the confidence to chase it.

What stuck with me most, though, wasn’t just the course material, it was how much the whole experience pushed me to grow. Between the group projects, tight deadlines, and a bunch of hackathons and events (most with some kind of public speaking), I got a lot better at staying focused, explaining ideas clearly, and not panicking when things got messy. I’m still figuring it out, but I’m more confident now, in how I communicate, how I work, and how I handle pressure when it hits.

The People

I’m genuinely thankful to all the lecturers who helped me find my feet. I’ll always carry a lot of gratitude for the college, the course, and the people I met along the way. It’s made a massive difference in my life, and I don’t take that lightly.
