Making a Difference with Special Olympics Ireland

We recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in one of the highlights of the Mastercard Internship Calendar—the Intern Charity Committee’s Volunteering Day! This event allowed us to support Special Olympics Ireland during their much-anticipated Athletics Day, where we engaged in various activities, from staging athletes to mopping the race track (Which was not surprising at all, given the Irish weather!).

I was personally responsible for notifying the event officials about competition results, running errands, and ensuring the results were posted promptly for the athletes and their families to see.

The Intern Charity Committee

A massive shoutout to the Intern Charity Committee for their exceptional organization! Coordinating the participation of all the interns in the Dublin office was no small feat. They handled everything, from safeguarding training to Garda vetting, which ensured we were prepared and compliant. Their dedication allowed us to focus on what mattered most: making the day special for the athletes, their families, and coaches.

Mastercard’s Commitment to Community

At Mastercard, interns are encouraged to give back to our local communities with two designated volunteering days. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. We truly made the most of a classic Irish summer day, navigating both lashing rain and blazing sunshine to ensure the event ran smoothly! It was heartwarming to witness the joy and determination of the athletes, and we felt proud to play a role in their special day.
