Volunteering with Special Olympics Ireland

As part of the Mastercard Internship Program, we spent a day volunteering at Special Olympics Ireland’s Athletics Day, one of the better parts of the summer.

The weather was predictably Irish, and so were the tasks: mopping the race track, staging athletes, and helping wherever needed. I ended up handling result deliveries, making sure scores were sent to the officials and posted for athletes and families.

Shoutout to the Intern Charity Committee

The Intern Charity Committee did a solid job pulling this all together, sorting out training, vetting, and getting all the interns prepped. Organising that many people isn’t easy, and they kept things running smoothly.

Getting Involved

Mastercard gives interns two days a year to volunteer, and this was a good use of one. It was great seeing the athletes give it their all, and being able to support the event, even in a small way, made the day feel worthwhile.
